Speech and Language Disorders
Speech disorders or speech impediments, as they are also called, are a type of communication disorder where 'normal' speech is disrupted. This can mean stuttering, lisps, etc. Someone who is totally unable to speak due to a speech disorder is considered mute. When a person is unable to produce speech sounds correctly or clearly it is considered a speech disorder. Stuttering is one of the many examples of speech disorders. When a person has trouble understanding others it would be considered a language disorder. A stroke can for example result in a language disorder.
