Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition that affects areas of the brain and spinal cord resulting in a wide range of symptoms.  MS is a lifetime condition and its symptoms vary from person to person from changes in sensation, sight problems to muscle weakness, depression and difficulties with coordination and speech, although it is often possible to treat the condition and research is very much ongoing.Multiple sclerosis is also sometimes known as disseminated sclerosis or encephalomyelitis disseminata.

MS is a chronic disease that affects the central nervous system (CNS) and is triggered when the immune system breaks down and mistakenly attacks the healthy areas of the body.  Famous people with varying degrees of MS include Jack Osbourne, Richard Pryor, Montel Williams and Country and Western star Clay Walker.
