Dystonia information

is the term used to describe involuntary sustained muscle contractions that lead to abnormal movements and postures. It is a neurological disorder that affects movement, but does not lead to problems with other functions of the brain. Focal dystonias are the most common form, and affect only one part of the body. Dystonia can affect a single part of the body, or the whole body.

Dystonia symptoms can include tremors, voice problems or a dragging foot. Symptoms often start in childhood. They can also start in the late teens or early adulthood. Some dystonia cases worsen over time. Others are mild. Sites offer symptom details, diagnosis and treatment information.
